1 Corinthians 15:55-56
v. 55: Paul celebrates this victory by quoting, “O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?” (1 Corinthians 15:55 a). He is saying that death and the grave have lost all their power over believers. v. 56: He explains why death was so terrible before: “The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law” (1 Corinthians 15:56 b). Sin brings death, and the law gives sin its power. But Jesus has removed sin’s power by dying for us (Romans 5:12 c).
