v. 2-4: David told Solomon to be strong, act like a man, and obey all of God’s commands. He said that following God’s laws would bring success and help keep God’s promises to their family. David reminded Solomon that the promise of the throne would continue only if David’s children followed God faithfully. Lasting blessing comes from trusting and obeying God’s word (1 Kings 2:2-4 ^b).
