‏ 1 Samuel 17:17-18

v. 17–18: Jesse gave David instructions to visit his brothers at the camp. David did not ask to go out of curiosity, but obeyed his father. Jesse sent him with bread, roasted grain, and cheese for his brothers and their commander (1 Samuel 17:17–18 a). David had no special privileges; he had to carry everything himself. Perhaps Jesse wanted to keep David humble and unnoticed since he knew about David's secret anointing as future king. Jesse also told David to check on his brothers and see how they were doing. Parents care about their children, especially when they are away and in dangerous places. Children should remember that, even when far from home, they are still under God's watchful eye.
