1 Timothy 1:18
Paul's Charge to TimothyIn this section, Paul gives Timothy a serious command to continue his ministry with courage and faith. Paul reminds Timothy that being a minister is like fighting a good battle for God. He encourages Timothy to stay strong, keep his faith, and always have a clear conscience. Paul also warns about people who have turned away from the faith and the consequences they faced.v. 18: Paul says, This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare (1 Timothy 1:18 a). The gospel is a special trust given to ministers, and they must use it as God intended. Paul reminds Timothy that there were prophecies about him being chosen for ministry, and this should encourage him to serve faithfully. Ministry is like a battle against sin and the devil, and Timothy must be brave and diligent, trusting in Jesus, the Captain of our salvation (Hebrews 2:10 b).
