‏ 2 Samuel 18:14-15

v. 14-15: Joab, ignoring David’s instructions, thrust three darts into Absalom’s body while he was still alive, and then ten of Joab’s men struck and killed him (2 Samuel 18:14-15 a). Though Joab’s actions brought an end to the rebellion, they disobeyed David’s explicit command to spare Absalom. This highlights the tension between loyalty to a king’s orders and the perceived need to protect the kingdom.
