2 Samuel 21:2
v. 2: The Gibeonites were descendants of the Amorites who had tricked Israel into making a peace treaty with them. Joshua had promised to protect them, but Saul, wanting to show his power and zeal for Israel, killed many Gibeonites. This was a serious sin because it broke a solemn oath and shed innocent blood (2 Samuel 21:2; Joshua 9:1-27 a). Saul’s actions brought a curse on his family and the nation.
