‏ Deuteronomy 1:19

Deuteronomy 1:19: Israel's Sin at Kadesh

In this passage, Moses reminds the Israelites of a serious turning point in their history. Because of their sin and unbelief, the people lost the chance to enter the promised land and had to wander in the wilderness. Moses tells the story again, adding some details not found in Numbers 13 and 14. This lesson shows how disobedience and lack of faith can have serious consequences, but also how God still shows mercy.

v. 19: Moses talks about how the people traveled from Horeb (Mount Sinai) to Kadesh-barnea through a large and dangerous wilderness (v. 19 a). This reminds the people of God’s protection during hard times, and also shows how foolish it would have been to try to return to Egypt.
