Esther 8:4
v. 4-5: The king holds out his golden sceptre to Esther, allowing her to speak (Esther 8:4 a). She asks the king, with great respect and humility, to cancel Haman’s letters that ordered the Jews to be destroyed. Esther is very careful with her words. She says, If it please the king, and if I have found favour in his sight (Esther 8:5 b). Even when she has a strong case, she is polite and humble. Esther also shows deep emotion, saying she cannot bear to see her people destroyed. Her tears now are for her nation, not for herself.
