‏ Exodus 32:20

v. 20: To prove how worthless the idol was, Moses burned the golden calf, ground it into powder, and scattered it on the water, making the Israelites drink it (v. 20 a). This showed that idols have no real power (1 Cor. viii. 4 b) and that false gods cannot even save themselves (Isa. xlvi. 1, 2 c). Mixing the powder in their water was a sign that their sin would bring bitterness into all their lives and that they would suffer the consequences of their actions (Prov. xiv. 14 d).
