Exodus 38:8
v. 8: The bronze laver was made for the priests to wash themselves before serving God ( a). This is a picture of how, through Jesus, our souls are washed clean from sin so we can serve God. The laver was made from the mirrors of the women who gathered at the tabernacle. These women were known for their devotion, giving up something valuable for God’s work. Giving up their mirrors showed both repentance for past pride and great zeal for the tabernacle. The mirrors were likely used so that when the priests washed, they could see their faces and be sure to cleanse every spot. This teaches us to examine ourselves carefully when we repent, using God’s word as a mirror for our hearts ( b).
