He told them that by marrying foreign wives, they had added to Israel’s sins and risked falling back into idolatry—the very sin that had led to their captivity. Ezra called them to confess their sin to God and to show they were willing to do whatever God wanted, especially separating from their foreign wives (Ezra 10:10-11 ). He probably led them in a prayer of confession, asking everyone to agree by saying “Amen.”
