Hosea 1:2
Hosea’s Marriage as a Sign of Israel’s Unfaithfulness This section begins the book of Hosea, where God uses the prophet’s own life as a dramatic symbol. God commands Hosea to marry an unfaithful woman to show how Israel has been unfaithful to God by worshiping idols. This powerful story is meant to help people understand the seriousness of turning away from God and the deep love God still has for His people, even when they sin. v. 2: God speaks to Hosea and tells him to marry a wife who will be unfaithful and have children of unfaithfulness. This is a picture of how the people of Israel have been unfaithful to God. They have left God and worshiped other gods, committing “spiritual adultery” . God wants Hosea’s marriage to be a living example of Israel’s relationship with Him.
