Isaiah 50:1
Expostulations with Israel. This section responds to people who complain that God has been unfair or harsh with Israel. God challenges them to show if he has treated them wrongly or abandoned them without cause. Instead, God shows that it was Israel’s own sins that brought trouble. He also reminds them that his power to save is not limited, and their suffering is not because he is weak or unwilling, but because they refused his calls to repentance and mercy.v. 1: God asks Israel if they can show any proof that he has rejected them unfairly. Where is the bill of your mother’s divorce, whom I have put away? Or which of my creditors is it to whom I have sold you? . God says he never cast them off without reason. He did not divorce them as a husband might, or sell them as a father might sell a child to pay a debt (Deuteronomy 24:1; Matthew 19:7 a). If they are separated from God, it is because of their own sins, not because God was unjust.
