The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me . Jesus was given the Holy Spirit without limit to enable him to preach, heal, and save. Just as prophets, priests, and kings were anointed for special purposes in the Old Testament, Jesus was set apart as the Messiah (meaning “Anointed One”). He was sent by God to proclaim good news to the poor, offering hope to those who are humble and open to receiving it (James 2:5 ).
