‏ James 3:9-12

v. 9–10: With the tongue, we bless God and also curse people who are made in God’s image. This is not right. Our words should be consistent—if we praise God, we should not hurt others with the same mouth (James 3:9–10 a).

v. 11–12: James uses examples from nature. A spring does not give both fresh and salty water, and a fig tree cannot produce olives. In the same way, a truly godly person should not speak both good and evil. Our words should always match our faith (James 3:11–12 b).
