Jeremiah 36:29
v. 29–31: God gave a special warning to King Jehoiakim. The king was angry because the scroll said, “The king of Babylon will come and destroy this land” (Jeremiah 36:29 a). But this warning was true. Babylon had already attacked before (2 Chronicles 36:6–7; Daniel 1:1 b). Because Jehoiakim rejected God’s word, he and his family would be punished. He would lose his throne, and his body would not be buried with honor. Even his children and servants would suffer because of his actions (Jeremiah 36:31 c). No one can escape God’s judgment by fighting against Him (Job 9:4 d).
