‏ Job 9:1-2

Job's Reply to Bildad

Job responds to Bildad’s speech. He does not argue against the truth that God is just. Instead, Job agrees that God never does wrong. Job’s main question is different: How can any human be right before God? He knows that no one can win an argument or a fight against God. Job admits that if God judged us only by what we deserve, no one could stand before Him. He speaks with honesty about God’s greatness and power, and about how small and weak people are in comparison.

v. 1–2: Job says, “Truly I know it is so, but how can a person be right with God?” (Job 9:1-2 a). Job agrees that God is just. He also admits that humans cannot justify themselves before God (Psalm 143:2 b).
