Joh 1:4 | MHM | STEP | v. 4 : John says, “In him was life, and that life was the light of men” (John 1:4 ). Jesus has life in himself—he is the living God. He is the source of all life, both physical and spiritual (Genesis 1:20; Acts 17:25 ; Matthew 4:4 ). He gives life and also brings light, which means understanding and wisdom. The life of people is special because it includes reason and the ability to know God. Jesus is the one who gives us this deeper life and understanding. He is the one who gives both eternal life and spiritual light to everyone who believes in him.
