v. 49: Then Caiaphas, the high priest that year, spoke up, "You know nothing at all! He argued that it would be better for Jesus to die than for all the people to suffer. He did not realize he was speaking a prophecy.

v. 50: Caiaphas’s words were meant as a political solution, but God used them as a prophecy. Jesus would die not only for the Jewish nation, but for all God's children scattered around the world, to bring them together (John 11:51-52 ^b).
