v. 38: Jesus said, “I sent you to reap what you have not worked for. Others have done the hard work, and you have reaped the benefits of their labor” (John 4:38 ^b). The disciples were being sent out to bring people to God, but many others had prepared the way—including prophets and John the Baptist. The disciples were now seeing the results of God’s plan and other people’s efforts.
