John 4:5-7
v. 5: He came to a town in Samaria called Sychar, near the field that Jacob had given to his son Joseph (John 4:5 a). This place was important in Jewish history, reminding readers of God’s promises to his people. Jesus came to this well, where many people would gather water, making it a natural place to meet someone. v. 6: Jacob’s well was there. Jesus, tired from his journey, sat down by the well. It was about noon (John 4:6 b). Jesus, though he is the Son of God, shared in human experiences like tiredness and thirst. He rested, showing us that even in our busiest times, it is good to take a moment for rest. v. 7: A Samaritan woman came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give me a drink” (John 4:7 c). It was unusual for a Jewish man to speak with a Samaritan woman, but Jesus showed kindness and broke social barriers. He asked her for a simple favor, opening the way for a deeper conversation.
