God also forbids certain ways of cutting hair or beards, because these were done to honor false gods. They must not cut or mark their bodies for the dead, as the heathen did to please evil spirits. Christ has changed the meaning of death for believers, so we do not need to follow these customs. God’s people must not take on the marks of false gods.
