Luke 2:22-23
v. 22–23: When Jesus was forty days old, Mary and Joseph brought him to the temple in Jerusalem to present him to the Lord, as the law required for firstborn sons (Luke 2:22-23 a). The law stated that every firstborn male belonged to the Lord and had to be dedicated to him (Exodus 13:2 b). This also reminded people of how God had spared the firstborn sons of Israel during the Passover in Egypt. By presenting Jesus in the temple, Mary and Joseph showed their obedience to God’s law and recognized that their son belonged to God in a special way. –
