Even in this time of trouble, Peter’s weakness is shown, but also the mercy of Jesus in restoring him. v. 54–55 : The guards took Jesus and brought Him to the house of the high priest (Luke 22:54 ). Peter followed, but not too closely. He wanted to stay safe, so he kept his distance. When the servants made a fire in the courtyard, Peter sat down with them, blending in with the crowd instead of standing by Jesus.
