‏ Matthew 16:22

v. 22: Peter reacts strongly to Jesus’ words. He takes Jesus aside and begins to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord or God forbid! This shall never happen to you. Peter probably speaks for the other disciples too. He cannot accept that Jesus, the Messiah, should suffer and die. Peter’s reaction shows that he is thinking in a human way, wanting safety and success for Jesus, not suffering. But it is not right for Peter to argue with Jesus or try to change God’s plan (Romans 11:34 a).
