Numbers 26:53-56
– v. 54: God gave a fair rule for dividing the land: larger tribes would get more land, and smaller tribes would get less . Although Moses gave this instruction, he himself would not receive any land. This rule was for Joshua and future leaders to follow. v. 55: The final decision about who received which part of the land would be made by casting lots (Numbers 26:55 a). This showed that, even though leaders used wisdom, the outcome was really in God’s hands. God alone decides where each tribe should live. This reminds us of what Jesus said in the New Testament, that only God the Father decides who will have special places in His kingdom (Matthew 20:23 b). –
