‏ Psalms 100

A Call to Praise and Worship.

This psalm is a joyful invitation to worship God. It encourages all people, from every nation, to come before God with thanksgiving and gladness. It also reminds us of the reasons why we should praise Him: because of who He is and what He has done for us. Worship is not just a duty—it is a privilege and a joy.

v. 1–2: The psalmist calls out, Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth! Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing! (Psalm 100:1–2 a). Everyone is invited to praise God with enthusiasm and happiness. Worshiping God should not be done with sadness or reluctance. Instead, we should serve Him joyfully and come before Him with songs of praise. This reflects the joy that is found in knowing and serving God.

v. 3: The psalmist reminds us, Know that the Lord, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture . Worship begins with knowing who God is. He is the Creator, and we belong to Him. He made us, cares for us, and leads us like a shepherd leads his sheep. Because we are His people, we owe Him our worship and our obedience.

v. 4: The psalmist invites, Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name! . When we come to worship God, we should come with hearts full of gratitude. We should thank Him for giving us the opportunity to know Him and to be in His presence. Every act of worship should include thanksgiving and praise, for God deserves all the glory.

v. 5: The psalmist concludes, For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations (Psalm 100:5 b). God’s goodness, mercy, and faithfulness are everlasting. He is always kind and loving to His people, and He always keeps His promises. These reasons remind us that God is worthy of our praise, not just for what He does, but for who He is.
