‏ Psalms 139:17

The Omniscience of God

In this part of the psalm, David reflects on what it means that God knows everything about us. He is amazed at how much God cares for him, and he is comforted by God’s constant presence and guidance. David also sees that God’s knowledge means He will judge evil and protect those who love Him. David responds by asking God to search his heart and keep him on the right path.

v. 17-18: David is filled with wonder and thankfulness when he thinks about how God cares for him. He says, “How precious are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them!” (Psalm 139:17 a). God’s plans for us are loving and good, not for harm (Jeremiah 29:11 b). There are so many ways God has shown mercy and kindness that we could never count them all—they are more than the sand (Psalm 40:5 c). Every morning, David wakes up knowing God is still with him and caring for him.
