‏ Psalms 18:1

David’s Song of Deliverance and Praise

This psalm was written by David when God saved him from his enemies. The title says this song was also given to the chief musician for use in worship (2 Samuel 22:1 a). David is called "the servant of the Lord," which was a greater honor to him than being a king (Psalm 116:16 b). This shows that personal experiences with God can teach and encourage everyone. David’s story is not just for himself, but also for others who trust in God. In this psalm, David remembers God’s help, praises Him, and tells how God rescued him from great danger.

v. 1: David begins with love and devotion, saying, I will love you, O Lord, my strength . Loving God is the most important commandment. When God gives us mercy, it should make us love Him more. David finds joy in his relationship with God and is thankful for it.
