Psalms 2:2-5
v. 2: The kings and rulers of the earth join together against the Lord and His Anointed, the Messiah . This means that both leaders and ordinary people resist God’s rule and the message of Jesus Christ (Acts 4:27 a). v. 3: They say, Let us break their bands asunder and cast away their cords from us . They do not want to be under God’s authority or keep His commandments. They want freedom from God’s rules, but these rules are actually for their good (Luke 19:14 b). v. 4: God sits in heaven and laughs at their plans. He is not worried or threatened by their rebellion . God’s power and wisdom are so great that human opposition cannot stand against Him. v. 5: God will speak to them in His anger and terrify them with His wrath . Those who oppose God will be judged, because rejecting His Son is a serious sin (Isaiah 11:4 c).
