Psalms 70
Prayer for God’s Help and DeliveranceThis psalm is meant to help us remember. It reminds us to call on God, especially in times of trouble, and to trust in His promises. When we pray, we are not really reminding God—He never forgets—but we are showing our faith and reminding ourselves of His faithfulness. David uses words he has prayed before, teaching us it is fine to repeat prayers from the heart. God cares more about our sincerity than about new or special words.v. 1: David begins, Make haste, O God, to deliver me; make haste to help me, O Lord . He feels poor and needy. He asks God to come quickly and help him, showing that it is good to admit our weakness and need before God. v. 2: He prays about his enemies: Let them be ashamed and confounded that seek after my soul: let them be turned backward, and put to confusion, that desire my hurt . David wants those who want to harm him to fail and realize their mistake. He prays that their evil plans will not succeed. v. 3: He continues, Let them be turned back for a reward of their shame that say, Aha, aha . His enemies mock him, hoping for his downfall. David asks God to disappoint them and make them ashamed of their actions. v. 4: David prays for God’s people: Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee . He wants everyone who seeks God and loves His salvation to be filled with joy and to praise God continually, saying, Let God be magnified. True happiness is found in loving and praising God. v. 5: He finishes, But I am poor and needy: make haste unto me, O God: thou art my help and my deliverer; O Lord, make no tarrying (Psalm 70:5 a). David admits again that he needs God’s help. He trusts God to rescue him and asks Him not to delay. This verse reminds us that God is always ready to help those who call on Him with humble hearts.
