‏ Psalms 93

The Glory and Majesty of God

This psalm celebrates God’s rule over all creation. It reminds us that not only is God the rightful King, but He is also actively ruling and guiding everything according to His will. The psalmist wants us to remember that God’s power, wisdom, and holiness are far above anything in this world. No matter what happens, God’s throne is secure, and His promises are sure.

v. 1: The psalmist declares, The Lord reigns, He is clothed with majesty; the Lord is clothed, He has girded Himself with strength. Surely the world is established, so that it cannot be moved . God’s majesty is greater than any earthly king. He rules with power, and it is by His strength that the world stands firm and secure. God’s rule is not just a title—He truly governs everything.

v. 2: The psalmist continues, Your throne is established from of old; You are from everlasting . God’s right to rule comes from the fact that He created everything. His throne and authority have always existed and will never end (1 Corinthians 15:24 a).

v. 3: He describes trouble in the world: The floods have lifted up, O Lord, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift up their waves . This is a picture of chaos and danger, like a stormy sea. Sometimes, evil people or difficult times seem overwhelming, but God is still in control.

v. 4: The psalmist reassures us: The Lord on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, than the mighty waves of the sea . No matter how loud or strong the troubles are, God is far more powerful. He rules above all chaos and can bring peace even in the worst storms (Psalm 65:7 b).

v. 5: The psalm ends with a reminder of God’s faithfulness and holiness: Your testimonies are very sure; holiness adorns Your house, O Lord, forever (Psalm 93:5 c). God always keeps His promises, and His people should live holy lives. Holiness is always fitting for God’s house and those who worship Him.
