‏ Revelation of John 3:14

The Church in Laodicea

This is the last and worst of the seven letters to the Asian churches. Unlike the church in Philadelphia, which had no faults mentioned, Laodicea is completely reproved. Though still called one of the seven golden candlesticks (meaning it is still a church), it is corrupt and spiritually dead. The message comes from Jesus, the Amen, the faithful and true witness, and the beginning of God's creation. He knows their real condition, even though they are blind to it themselves.

v. 14: The letter is addressed to the angel of the church in Laodicea. Jesus describes Himself as the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God (Revelation 3:14 a). This means He is the ultimate truth, steady and unchanging, the source of all creation, and the head of the new creation, the church. His words are trustworthy and final.
