‏ Romans 8:1

Life through the Spirit

This section begins the great chapter on the new life Christians have through the Spirit. Paul declares that there is now no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. This means that those who trust in Jesus are not judged guilty by God because of their sins. This freedom comes because Jesus fulfilled the law and took the punishment for sin. The Spirit gives believers power to live according to God’s will, breaking the power of sin and death.

v. 1: Paul declares, “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1 a). This means that those who belong to Christ and trust in him are not condemned by God. They are free from the guilt and punishment that sin deserves. This is because Jesus took their sin upon himself and paid the price for it. Now believers live not judged guilty but accepted and forgiven by God.
