For example, Er, Judah’s oldest son, was evil in the sight of the Lord and God put him to death (v. 3 ). Onan, his brother, also did wrong and died. Judah himself sinned with Tamar, his daughter-in-law (v. 4 ). There was also Achan, called Achar, who brought trouble to Israel by taking things that were supposed to be destroyed (v. 7 ).
