‏ 1 Samuel 26:14-16

v. 14-16: David first spoke to Abner, Saul’s chief guard, calling out to wake him. He mocked Abner for failing to protect the king, saying he deserved to lose his honor and even his life for being so careless (1 Samuel 26:14-16 a). David showed them Saul’s spear and water jug as proof. He pointed out that while Saul’s own men had failed to keep him safe, David, whom they considered an enemy, had actually protected Saul. This was meant to highlight their failure and David’s integrity.
