1 Timothy 5:3
Directions Concerning WidowsIn this passage, Paul gives instructions on how the church should care for widows. He explains who qualifies for support and what behaviors and characteristics are expected of widows who receive help from the church. Paul encourages charity but also emphasizes wisdom in how resources are distributed to ensure that they are used properly and do not bring reproach on the church.v. 3: Paul begins with the general rule: Honour widows that are widows indeed (1 Timothy 5:3 a). To "honor" here means to support or provide for them. The church is responsible for helping widows who are truly in need. In biblical times, widows often faced hardships, and the church took care to provide for those who had no one else to rely on (Acts 6:1 b).
