‏ 2 Kings 11:17

The Covenant Renewed and the Nation Restored

After Athaliah’s death, Jehoiada the priest took steps to secure the new king’s rule and restore the nation. He wanted to make sure that both the king and the people would follow God and live in peace with each other. This was a fresh start for Judah, built on promises to God and to one another. The people were eager to remove idolatry and return to true worship, and their joy brought peace to Jerusalem.

v. 17: Jehoiada led the people and the new king in making a covenant before God. They promised together that they would be the Lord’s people and serve Him. The king and the people also made promises to each other, agreeing on their duties and responsibilities . This covenant helped everyone understand their role and strengthened their unity.
