2 Peter 1:4
v. 4: Peter explains that God has given believers exceedingly great and precious promises. These promises include the forgiveness of sins and the gift of the Holy Spirit, which is the greatest promise in the New Testament (Luke 24:49 a). Through these promises, Christians become partakers of the divine nature—their hearts are changed to become more like God, and they are set free from the power of sinful desires. Those who belong to the world are still under the power of sin, but God’s children are given new desires and live in the freedom of God’s family (1 John 5:19 b).
