Esther 10:3
v. 3: Mordecai became great in two ways. First, he was honored by the king, becoming second in command in the empire. Though he had spent years quietly serving at the king’s gate, his faithfulness was rewarded, and he rose to a position of great influence. His achievements were written in the chronicles as a part of the king’s success. Second, he was highly respected among the Jews. They did not envy his success but supported him and trusted his leadership (Esther 10:3 a).Mordecai’s goodness was what truly made him great. He used his position to help others rather than seeking wealth or power for himself. He stayed loyal to his Jewish heritage and faith, even as he served in a Persian court. He worked for the welfare of his people and was a humble, approachable leader who cared for all the Jews equally. He spoke peace to everyone and was like a father to the nation. His humility and kindness earned him the love and respect of all his people.Mordecai’s leadership is an example of how those in power should act. They should use their influence to serve others and seek the good of all, not just themselves or a select group. As the Bible says, we should pray for leaders so that we can live quiet and peaceable lives in godliness and honesty (1 Timothy 2:2 b).
