‏ Esther 7:3-4

v. 3-4: Esther surprises the king with her request. She asks not for wealth or power, but for her own life and the lives of her people (Esther 7:3-4 a). She says, Let my life be given me at my petition, and my people at my request. She explains that if she and her people had only been sold as slaves, she would not have spoken out. But now, they are about to be destroyed, killed, and wiped out. Esther points out that this would hurt the king too, because it would mean losing so many people from his kingdom. She refers to the very words of the decree that ordered their destruction (Esther 3:13 b).
