He said, You shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation (Exodus 19:5–6 ). This meant they would belong to God, be loved by him, and have a special purpose to serve him and show the world what God is like. All believers in Christ are also called a royal priesthood and a holy nation (1 Peter 2:9; Revelation 1:6 ).
