‏ Ezra 4:13

v. 13, 16: The enemies also made wild predictions, saying that if Jerusalem was rebuilt, the Jews would refuse to pay taxes and the king would lose control over the region (Ezra 4:13, 16 a). They argued that the king’s revenue would suffer. Every part of their letter showed both their cunning and their hatred for God’s people. This teaches us that God’s people must be ready for lies and opposition, but also trust that God’s truth will win in the end.
