He created only one man and one woman at first, showing that all humans come from one family (Genesis 2:21-23; Malachi 2:15 ; Matthew 19:4,5 ). This also teaches that marriage is meant to be for life. Only humans were made to continue their kind by being male and female, unlike the angels (Luke 20:34-36 ). Being made in God’s image means having a spirit, understanding, will, and holiness. In the beginning, humans were upright and pure, with no sin or disorder (Ephesians 4:24; Colossians 3:10; Ecclesiastes 7:29 ). This likeness to God is a reason to treat each other with respect (James 3:9; Genesis 9:6 ). Sadly, sin damaged this image, but God can restore it through His grace.
