‏ Genesis 2:3

v. 3: “And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.” God made the seventh day a special, holy day. He set it apart for rest and worship. This is the beginning of the Sabbath, a day of rest that God’s people would later keep (Jeremiah 6:16 a). God wants us to honor the Sabbath, just as He did. The Sabbath is blessed and holy because God made it so. Christians now honor the first day of the week to celebrate Jesus’ resurrection, but we can still remember God’s original work of creation and give Him praise on the Sabbath.
