Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate” (Hebrews 13:11–12 ). In the Old Testament, animal sacrifices were burned outside the camp; in the same way, Jesus suffered outside the city to make people holy through His blood.

v. 13: The writer encourages, “Let us go forth therefore unto him without the camp, bearing his reproach” (Hebrews 13:13 ^b). Christians should be willing to suffer shame and leave behind old ways for Jesus, just as He suffered for them.
