Some people ask this question because they refuse to accept correction and cannot see that their own sins have brought this trouble. Others may ask because they are beginning to feel sorry for their sins and want to return to God (Jeremiah 8:6 ). God notices every thought of repentance and wants people to see their sin so they can turn from it.
