The Wedding at Cana—Jesus Turns Water into Wine

This section tells the story of Jesus’ first recorded miracle, which took place at a wedding in Cana of Galilee. Jesus, his mother, and his disciples were all invited. When the wine ran out, Jesus performed a miracle that showed his divine power and kindness. This event began to reveal to his disciples and others that he was truly the Son of God.

v. 1: On the third day, there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and Jesus’ mother was there (John 2:1 a). Jesus honored the marriage by attending the celebration. This teaches us that marriage is a good and honorable thing. Jesus’ presence at the wedding shows that he supports happy and holy family life. He did not separate himself from ordinary people or their joys, but joined them, even in times of celebration.
