Judges 14:12-14
v. 12–14: To entertain his guests, Samson proposed a riddle based on his recent encounter with the lion and honey: Out of the eater came forth meat, and out of the strong came forth sweetness (Judges 14:12-14 a). He wagered thirty sets of clothing that they could not solve the riddle in seven days. Riddles were a common form of entertainment at feasts in ancient times, encouraging wit and friendly competition. This riddle also reflects deeper truths about how God brings good out of difficult situations, turning threats into blessings (Philippians 1:12 b). – –
