Judges 8:2
v. 2-3: Gideon responded with humility and wisdom. He praised the Ephraimites for their role in capturing and killing the Midianite leaders, Oreb and Zeeb, saying, Is not the gleaning of the grapes of Ephraim better than the vintage of Abiezer? (Judges 8:2 a). By this, he meant that their later contribution was more significant than his initial efforts. Gideon gave credit to God for their success, saying, God has delivered into your hands the princes of Midian (Judges 8:3 b). His gentle and respectful answer calmed their anger, showing that humility and a soft answer can turn away wrath (Proverbs 15:1 c).Gideon’s response is a powerful example of how to handle conflict. Instead of arguing or defending himself, he chose to honor others and give glory to God. This approach not only resolved the dispute but also preserved unity among the Israelites. It reminds us that humility and self-control are essential for maintaining peace, even in the face of criticism.
